How I learned Spanish: When I was about 11 or 12, my older cousin married a girl from Chile. She was so pretty and dressed so cool and I wanted to know what on earth she was saying when she and my cousin were talking. My dad suggested I take Spanish. I took classes all the way through college. Of course, my cousin’s wife now takes full credit not only for my Spanish, but also for ending up with my Venezuelan husband!
What my hobbies used to be before I got a job and entered grad school:
Photography, poetry, a good movie, time spent with good friends
What I look forward to most about moving to Miramar Florida: Accepting the new challenge to build community through small groups at The Pursuit Christian Church. Trips to the beach, amazing shopping in Miami, no more winter, meeting people from all over the world.
What makes me nervous about moving to Florida: being far away from my family, the traffic, meeting friends, alligators in my backyard…yikes!
I must confess: I’ve never seen all the Star Wars Trilogy, I do not drink coffee, I looove French fries, I hate to exercise, I own season one of the Newlyweds!
I am proud to say: I am an Indiana University graduate. Go Hoosiers!! Like a good honorary Veneuelan, I know how to make arepas (gracias cuñada), and salsa dance (gracias otra vez cuñis)!
Who I listen to: KT Tunstall, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Knapp, Sara Groves, Jewel, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Maroon Five, Shakira.
Favorite books: One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad), Prince of Tides, and for dessert: The Notebook
