Kem Meyer was the speaker I most anticipated hearing at MinistryCom. She's the pace-setter in ministry communications, always reminding me that my job is to clear the clutter that prevents people from encountering Christ. Her session brought me there again. You can read the highlights on her blog.
But what I appreciated even more was a post she made the day after MinistryCom about the importance of being uncomfortable.
I read it during a great void of comfort . . . still in Louisville several days longer than anticipated due to dad's hospitalization. I've thought about it many times since coming back home because, well, the church planting world is just about the farthest thing from comfortable.
Kem convinced me that's exactly where God wants me to be, though. She said . . .
When I am uncomfortable...
I'm intentional; not casual.
I'm confident in God; not me.
I'm hungry to learn; not content where I am.
I'm making decisions on purpose; not by accident.
Life's a little bit harder; not a little bit easier.
My faith is a little bit bigger; not a little bit smaller.
I think a little more about others; not a little more about me.
Ironic that I find this whole way of thinking incredibly comforting.
