Matthew 6:6 -
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
What popped out to me from this verse?
I love how prescriptive this verse is: 1) go to room, 2) close door, 3) pray.
What does that have to do with me?
I have to admit that I didn't read chapter 6 until today (Sunday) after Celebration Service, where Matt talked about prayer. He and God stepped all over my toes, making me realize it's been entirely too long since I had a closed-door, lovin' the solitude, prayer time with God.
Despite the fact that I've had a fairly daily quiet time every day last month, it hasn't been truly QUIET. I read, I think through what I hear God saying to me, I journal a bit, I go. I haven't just sat down in silence, pouring out to God and waiting for Him. Man I miss that! Tomorrow - closet time.
My prayer:
God, forgive me for filling my time with you with entirely too many distractions. When I wake up tomorrow, fill my mind and heart with an excitement about spending time in solitude with You. Amen.
