I can't pinpoint what it was but yesterday was a special day at The Pursuit.
I am having a blast teaching this new series Eat this Book, which challenges us to not just read the Bible but to let God's Word become a part of us. In part one, yesterday, we looked at Matthew 4:1-11 and saw how Jesus used the Word of God to respond to the temptations thrown at him by Satan.
To set the mood we set up the ballroom in round tables and made it look like a banquet or cafe'. I loved watching the faces of people as they walked in. The setup was a major hit! It's funny how in three short months The Pursuit has been in existence, we've already become accustomed to certain things. Sitting in rows was definitely one of them. It was great to do something different. Plus, sitting in round tables forced everyone to get to know others at their table.
After the Celebration Service, Janie and I went to lunch with Jerry and Norma Roch (friends of ours from up north). They completely surprised us. Being that Jerry is an elder at Traders Point Christian Church, I instantly became aware I was wearing jeans. I guess, some old habits die hard. They were visiting friends in Ft. Myers, and the four of them made the trip across the Alley to be at The Pursuit. Very nice surprise.
Finally, the Student Community Group came over to our house last night. These young men and women are serious about following Jesus. I am very encouraged with their hunger for the Word of God.
It was a long day, but a very good day.
